Roadmap Goal:
Build Strong Community

Why Does Community Matter to the Family?
While relationships within the family should be the first ones we focus on, the need for connection and belonging applies to the family unit in much the same way it applies to the individual. Being connected with others can be like creating a bigger family!
1. Community Reminds Us We're Not Alone
Have you ever thought your family must be the only ones that have gone through "this", only to meet another family that has gone through something similar?
Community through shared experience creates a special bond. It reminds us that we're not alone in the world. This perspective can keep us grounded and encouraged.
2. There's Strength in Numbers
When we're able to surround our families with other like-minded families, our children see that they are not the only ones who live life a certain way. Being around other families that prioritize weekly church attendance makes going to church normal. Children who see their lifestyle reflected in other families push back less because they're comparing similar, rather than drastically different, things.
3. Community Creates Accountability
We all need to be held accountable. Allowing yourself and your family to be known by others creates opportunity to be called back to the ways of God when we wander. People outside of our families have a different perspective and may notice when something is off before we have a hint of a problem.
4. Community Provides Resources
There's plenty of quick answers available on the internet, but these always lack a crucial element: the writer on the other side of the screen doesn't know you and your family. When you reach out for help from real people who know the real you, answers are personalized. Odds are these people will walk though the problem with you until you find the right solution. This type of wise counsel simply can't be found outside of real, personal connection.
Ideas to Create Community
Plug Into A Local Church
God created the church for His people. He knows that He created us to be in community, connected with people through His Word. We know there is no perfect church (because there's no perfect people), but the benefits of worshiping together are made clear in Scripture.
Seek Out a Mentor Couple
The Bible clearly teaches that the older are to teach the younger. The wisdom and knowledge that is gained through life experience is meant to be shared. Finding a couple that's further along in their family journey to share what they've learned will benefit you whole family.
Are you one of the couples that is "further along"? Look for a younger couple that you can walk alongside!
Seek Community Through Common Lifestyle/Interests
What is a unique aspect of your family? Perhaps it's an off-grid lifestyle, soccer, or homeschooling. The lifestyle your family chooses can be a connection point to other families with similar values. Walking alongside others around a common interest or life choice provides fresh perspective and reminds us we're not alone.
Pray!
Families today often feel isolated and alone. We know we need and crave community but don't know where to find it. This is where prayer is so important! God will be faithful to connect you with people that you need in your life--even if they're not who you would have expected.
